Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have signed on to co-produce a new installment in the Mission: Impossible movie franchise. Interestingly, the announcement does not say that Cruise will be starring in the film, although that's still a possibility.
Cruise successfully took the television-based Mission: Impossible franchise from the small screen to the silver screen, starring as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in all three MI movies. Abrams directed Cruise in the third film, which debuted in 2006.
The new movie is slated for a possible 2011 release. [Hollywood Reporter]
