Music Notes: Jay-Z shows support for Grizzly Bear, download new Bad LIeutenant track

- Jay-Z showed some love for Grizzly Bear by attending their free Brooklyn show yesterday, along with Beyonce and Solange Knowles. Here's some of what Jay had to say: "[Grizzly Bear is] an incredible band. The thing I want to say to everyone-- I hope this happens because it will push rap, it will push hip-hop to go even further-- what the indie rock movement is doing right now is very inspiring. It felt like us in the beginning. These concerts, they're not on the radio, no one hears about them, and there's 12,000 people in attendance." [Pitchfork]

Music Notes: NIN play final NYC shows, Radiohead debut latest track live

- Thom Yorke's contribution to the Mark Mulcahy tribute album Ciao My Shining Star, a cover of "All For The Best," will be released as a limited-edition 7-inch single. Mulcahy's Ciao My Shining Star will be the b-side. Only 2,000 copies of the single will be available worldwide. [Greenplastic]

- Kiss announced their 35th anniversary tour, which will kick off Sept. 25 in Detroit. [SPIN]

Music Notes: Radiohead release free track, Aerosmith cancel tour

So as I posted late last week, I'm planning on making Music Notes a three-times-a-week thing on this blog now that I have a nutty schedule. I'm hoping I'll be able to stick with it, and I'll keep you all posted.

- Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood confirmed that the band will debut new material at the Reading and Leeds Festivals later this month. He also linked to a free download of a new track, "These Are My Twisted Words." [NME]

- Aerosmith have canceled the remainder of their summer tour. [Brooklyn Vegan]

- Michael Jackson will be buried on Aug. 29, the date that would have marked his 51st birthday. [NME]

- Iggy Pop contributed vocals to a new version of "Oh My God," a track on Ida Maria's Fortress Round My Heart. This new version of the song hits radio this week, and will be available on iTunes starting Aug. 31. Listen to the collaboration here. [SPIN]

Music Notes: Radiohead release new song, Adam Yauch health update

I'm kind of back to posting in a "normal" fashion for now... here's some music news from yesterday and today.

- Radiohead have released a new song, "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)," a tribute to the last surviving World War I combat soldier Harry Patch. Patch died at the age of 111 on July 25. Thom Yorke posted a message on the band's website, saying that the song would be available for download for £1 with proceeds going to the British Legion. Yorke said, "It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us. I hope we do not forget." Download the song here. [Dead Air Space]

- Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (MCA) sent out an update about his health yesterday, following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his partoid gland. Read the full text of the email here. [SPIN]

- Slightly better news regarding Blur's recent reunion. Though band members recently said they didn't have anything planned for the future, guitarist Graham Coxon said the band could potentially stage more concerts — this time outside their native UK. "We're talking about doing some more shows abroad... I'm not sure how much I can say about that, but we're definitely talking about it," he said. Though Coxon also said the likelihood of new material surfacing anytime soon is very low, it looks like the band has at least considered writing new songs. Baby steps. [NME]

- Steven Tyler fell from the stage at an Aerosmith concert in South Dakota last night, suffering from head, neck and shoulder injuries. He was airlifted to the Rapid City Regional Hospital. The band's next concert, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed. [Associated Press via Yahoo! News]

- Former Shins drummer Jesse Sandoval said he was fired from the band. [Pitchfork]

- Here's a new video from Julian Plenti (aka Paul Banks of Interpol). His debut solo album, Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper, came out this Tuesday. This particular clip also features Emily Haines of Metric. [Pitchfork]

Music Notes: Radiohead deluxe reissues in August, Pitchfork festival set times are out

- EMI will reissue deluxe editions of Radiohead's Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief (Aug. 24 in Europe, Aug. 25 in the US). These new editions will feature b-sides, radio sessions and TV appearances. Go here for more details about the rereleases. [AtEaseWeb.com]

- The 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival set times have been revealed. The festival will be held July 17 - 19 in Chicago's Union Park. [Pitchfork]

- Beck is working on a new project, covering The Velvet Underground & Nico. Visit Q to check out a cover of "Sunday Morning." This is part of Beck's "Beck & Friends Music Club," which will involve Beck and some friends (shock!) rerecording entire albums in one-day sessions. [Q, NME]

- Paul McCartney will write the songs for a soundtrack to a film adaptation of one of his children's books. The film, High On the Clouds, is based on his 2005 book of the same name. [NME]

Music Notes: Radiohead open digital download shop, Le Tigre + Christina Aguilera = team?

Sorry for the late Music Notes today, everyone! I've been under the weather and finally feel a little up to blogging. If there are any further delays this week, you now know what to blame.

- Radiohead's merchandise folks over at w.a.s.t.e have unveiled a new digital download section in the band's online store. In Rainbows Disc 2, which featured songs only released with the limited edition discbox sets that fans were able to order back in October 2007, is also available for digital download. - Interesting pairing alert! Le Tigre might be joining Christina Aguilera in the studio while the latter works on recording her new album. So no, Le Tigre haven't broken up. [SPIN]

- The new Arctic Monkeys album will be titled Humbug. Bah. [NME]

- Every single Oasis album is set for a vinyl rerelease later this year. A b-sides collection will also be reissued in this format. [NME]

Music Notes: Radiohead back in the studio, Blink 182 tickets to cost $20

- Radiohead are back in the studio, toying with ideas for their follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows. Bassist Colin Greenwood told the BBC the band is at the stage "where we've got the big Lego box out and we've tipped it out on the floor and we're looking at all the bits and thinking, 'What next?'" Nigel Godrich, who has worked with the band on every album since 1997's OK Computer, will produce this album as well. [BBC]

- I kind of stopped caring about Blink 182 sometime in high school (even though I've been posting about them), but this is actually a nice thing to hear. The reunited group plans on offering fans $20 tickets. The cost will include fees, taxes and free parking. Props, guys! [NME]

- Sigur Ros frontman Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson has remixed Depeche Mode's "Come Back." The track will appear on Depeche Mode's upcoming single "Peace Out," and only the 7-inch vinyl release. [Sigur-Ros.co.uk]

- Pitchfork reports on an interesting venture by indie record stores. The Coalition of Independent Music Stores has launched ThinkIndie.com. The coalition issued the following statement about this online venture: "Each brick and mortar record store has its own homepage inside the site with its own recommendations, personality and local approach. Once a customer registers with the site, they are assigned to their local store and each time they make a purchase that store is rewarded." Pretty cool idea!
