Film News: Baywatch Movie in the Works

No posts this morning since, like much of the world, the Pop Wenches were watching the Michael Jackson memorial service (and I was commiserating with my LA friends about the resulting standstill traffic). We'll be back to our regular posting schedule tomorrow.

In totally non-MJ-related news, Paramount Pictures has tapped Jeremy Garelick to rewrite a current Baywatch film script with an eye to change it from an action-based movie to a comedy flick. Garelick did an uncredited rewrite for The Hangover.

"It felt like the template to do a movie that was similar to Stripes and Police Academy, the comedies I loved growing up," stated Garelick.

The movie will now focus "on two unlikely lifeguard candidates trying to catch on alongside the buff bodies that will be as abundant in the film as the were in the TV series."

Garelick will also make his directing debut with the Baywatch film. Needless to say, since the project is in the early stages, there is no casting news yet. [Variety]
