The Vampire Diaries Online Preview

If you're in the mood for afternoon eye candy, this extended clip from the upcoming series The Vampire Diaries may be just the ticket.

Adapted for television by Dawson's Creek creator Kevin Williamson, The Vampire Diaries is based on a book series by L.J. Smithand will air on The CW. In the books and the TV series, a pair of vampiric brothers (one good and one evil, of course), battle for the soul of a beautiful girl and the town where the brothers grew up when they were human.

There's another clip online that features Ian Somerhalder's (Lost) dark side as the evil brother Damon more than this sneak peek. While it the character doesn't appear to be quite as enjoyably evil as Spike or Angelus from the Buffyverse, Somerhalder does seem like he's having fun being the seductive bad guy.

From the look of those two clips, Diaries' visuals appear to fit nicely with The CW's current paranormal hottie show, Supernatural, while having a darker and less humorous tone. If nothing else, the female lead comes off as less annoying than Kristen Stewart's Bella in Twilight -- an immediate plus in my book!

The new Ian Somerhalder-led drama Vampire Diaries will be the Thursday night lead-in to returning paranormal drama Supernatural. For more details on The CW's new fall lineup, click here. [Variety]

TV News: NBC Announces Split Seasons, CW Taps Into Vampire Craze

- NBC is bookending its coverage of the Winter Olympics with two separate TV seasons, featuring different lineups for fall and spring. As part of the unusual move, the Peacock is ordering a smaller number of episodes for many of its shows, but will actually air fewer repeats throughout the year. Heroes and Chuck, for example, will share the Monday 8pm timeslot with one show airing its full season in the fall and the other running in the spring. Click here for a summary of the new NBC lineups for each season. [Variety]

- The latest buzz says that The CW has put in series orders for Vampire Diaries (starring Ian Somerhalder of Lost fame), Melrose Place 2.0 (featuring Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) and Beautiful Life (starring Mischa Barton). Two other CW shows, Lily and Body Politic haven't officially been axed, but things don't look good for them. [E! Online]
