Music Notes: Julian Casablancas announces solo album, Ghostface Killah to hit the road

- Julian Casablancas, aka The Strokes' frontman, is releasing a solo album this fall. The album is titled Phrazes for the Young. [SPIN]

- Ghostface Killah will be releasing The Wizard of Poetry in September, via Def Jam. He'll also be touring, starting next week, with Method Man and Redman. [Pitchfork]

- Trent Reznor may have announced Nine Inch Nails' last-ever U.S. tour dates last week, but it doesn't mean that NIN is actually over. “What I specifically said or meant to convey is that NIN as a touring live band or live band that’s on the road all the time is stopping. I’ve just reached the point … where it has invaded every other aspect of my life,” he said. He also added, "I’d never want to be Gene Simmons, an old man who puts on makeup to entertain kids, like a clown going to work." [Rolling Stone]

- A rare Tim Buckley live performance, Live at the Folklore Center, NYC - March 6, 1967, will be released Aug. 25. The recording will include six original Buckley compositions that haven't been included on previous releases. [Billboard]

- Stream The Dodos' new album Time to Die here. The album is available digitally in the US on July 28 (July 27 in the UK). Physical copies of the album will be out Aug. 31 in the UK and Sept. 15 in the US. [TimetoDie.net]

Music Notes: Beck interviews Tom Waits, Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval returns

- Beck interviewed Tom Waits. Check it here. The interview is a part of a new section on Beck's site. The section, titled Irrelevant Topics, will continue to feature more interviews (or "conversations") between Beck and other artists. [Beck.com]

- Hope Sandoval, previously of Mazzy Star, is back after an eight-year absence. Her second album with The Warm Inventions (a band she formed in 2001 with My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig) will be out Sept. 15. The album is titled Through The Devil Softly. You can listen to/download the first single, "Blanchard," here. It's a pretty lovely, haunting tune. So if you're a fan in any capacity, check it out. [SPIN]

- Pandora lives on! Internet radio companies and major record labels have reached a royalty agreement that will allow web radio sites like Pandora to survive from a financial standpoint. [Rolling Stone]

- The Beastie Boys' 1994 album, Ill Communication, will be reissued July 14 by Capitol Records. [Pitchfork]

- Dead Man's Bones, a collaboration featuring actors Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, will come out with their self-titled debut album on Oct. 6. [Pitchfork]

Music Notes: Radiohead deluxe reissues in August, Pitchfork festival set times are out

- EMI will reissue deluxe editions of Radiohead's Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief (Aug. 24 in Europe, Aug. 25 in the US). These new editions will feature b-sides, radio sessions and TV appearances. Go here for more details about the rereleases. [AtEaseWeb.com]

- The 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival set times have been revealed. The festival will be held July 17 - 19 in Chicago's Union Park. [Pitchfork]

- Beck is working on a new project, covering The Velvet Underground & Nico. Visit Q to check out a cover of "Sunday Morning." This is part of Beck's "Beck & Friends Music Club," which will involve Beck and some friends (shock!) rerecording entire albums in one-day sessions. [Q, NME]

- Paul McCartney will write the songs for a soundtrack to a film adaptation of one of his children's books. The film, High On the Clouds, is based on his 2005 book of the same name. [NME]
