Music Notes: Madonna 'devastated' by worker's death, new Modest Mouse

- Madonna has released a statement saying how "devastated" she is about the death of a worker at the Stade Velodrome in France. The victim died after the roof collapsed while the stage was being constructed at the stadium. At least six others were rushed to the hospital. Madonna was supposed to perform at the venue on July 19, but the show has now been canceled. [NME]

- Modest Mouse will drop a new 7-inch single, "Perpetual Motion Machine," on July 21. You can hear the b-side "History Sticks to Your Feet" here. The single will be limited to 4,000 copies, and will also be on red vinyl with an embossed sleeve. [Pitchfork]

- The 2009 Emmy Awards nominations are highlighting some musical contributions to TV. Justin Timberlake is up for three awards: "Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series" for his work on Saturday Night Live, as well as two nominations in the "Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics" category for his SNL digital short “Motherlover" and "I Live Sports" song from the 2008 ESPY Awards. Music Notes: Alec Ounsworth goes solo, Thom Yorke covers Miracle Legion

- Everyone's going solo! Clap Your Hands Say Yeah frontman Alec Ounsworth will release his first solo album, Mo Beauty, Oct. 20. Though his band is not breaking up, they're also up to "nothing for now." [SPIN]

- Listen to Thom Yorke cover Miracle Legion's "All for the Best" here. The track will open Ciao My Morning Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, a tribute compilation aiming to raise money for Mark Mulcahy (of Miracle Legion). - The blogger, who leaked tracks from Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy last June, has been sentenced to two months of home confinement and one year of parole for breaking copyright law. [Pitchfork]
