Music Notes: Beatles Rock Band songs confirmed, Karen O helms film soundtrack

- More songs have been announced for The Beatles Rock Band and you can see the game's tracklisting here. [NME]

- The soundtrack for Where The Wild Things Are will come out Sept. 29. It's credited to Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O and the Kids, the name she gave her collaborators. The movie itself hits theaters in October. [Pitchfork]

- Kraftwerk will reissue eight of their albums in a box set called 12345678: The Catalogue due in the US on Oct. 6. [Pitchfork]

Music Notes: Police investigate MJ's doctor, Leonard Cohen adds more US tour dates

- Police and federal agents searched the Houston clinic belonging to Michael Jackson's doctor today, looking for evidence of manslaughter. It looks like agents left with a forensic image of a hard drive along with 21 documents. [Associated Press via Yahoo! News]

- Leonard Cohen has announced more US tour dates for October and November. This year has marked the first proper Leonard Cohen US tour in 15 years. [SPIN]

- MGMT will appear on Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3. [Pitchfork]

- Modest Mouse will release an eight-song EP, No One's First, And You're Next, on Aug. 4. [NME]

- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a two-night celebration at New York's Madison Square Garden this October. Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Metallica are on the roster of performers. [SPIN]

Music Notes: Radiohead open digital download shop, Le Tigre + Christina Aguilera = team?

Sorry for the late Music Notes today, everyone! I've been under the weather and finally feel a little up to blogging. If there are any further delays this week, you now know what to blame.

- Radiohead's merchandise folks over at w.a.s.t.e have unveiled a new digital download section in the band's online store. In Rainbows Disc 2, which featured songs only released with the limited edition discbox sets that fans were able to order back in October 2007, is also available for digital download. - Interesting pairing alert! Le Tigre might be joining Christina Aguilera in the studio while the latter works on recording her new album. So no, Le Tigre haven't broken up. [SPIN]

- The new Arctic Monkeys album will be titled Humbug. Bah. [NME]

- Every single Oasis album is set for a vinyl rerelease later this year. A b-sides collection will also be reissued in this format. [NME]

Retrovideo Friday: "Believe in me, as I believe in you..."

Brace yourselves! We're about to take a trip back in time to... 1996, though this video may make it feel like something else.

This Week's Pick: "Tonight, Tonight" by The Smashing Pumpkins (Year: 1996)

1996 was the year of The Smashing Pumpkins' double-disc album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, a concept album of sorts that wound up featuring a number of notable Pumpkins' singles. "Tonight, Tonight" was actually the fourth single from the album — and arguably, one of the band's biggest singles to date.

The song's video, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, was inspired by Georges Méliès' 1902 silent film A Trip to the Moon. The resulting imagery — with Billy Corgan and his bandmates performing high up in the clouds, juxtaposed against the otherworldly wacky adventures of a couple in old-timey outfits — was a perfect match for the song's sweeping strings and grandiose nature.

Despite its own retro inspirations, the video has a beautiful timeless quality, and was recognized as an instant classic from the moment it debuted. It went on to win six MTV Video Music Awards including "Best Video" and "Breakthrough Video." And I have a feeling that it could have even won such awards if it had been released today.
